AREAS OF EXPERTISE

After more than 30 years of college teaching and administration, he decided to switch lanes and focus on developing nonprofit organizations with Wastyn & Associates. He looks forward to strategic conversations that allow nonprofits to better fulfill their mission and aspirations. Ron specializes in organizational leadership development with a focus on leadership, organizational change, decision making and strategy, and interpersonal and public communication. 

While teaching, Ron also facilitated corporate and nonprofit leadership training for the Rock Island Arsenal, City of Bettendorf, and Wastyn & Associates. He served on the St. Ambrose strategic planning committee and routinely facilitates focus groups and other strategic conversations. He also served on the boards of the Quad City Amateur Golf Tour and SAL Family and Community Services and earned the Certificate of Nonprofit Board Consulting from BoardSource. 

Ron has taught communication and leadership for nearly 35 years at the University of Pittsburgh, James Madison University, and St. Ambrose University. As a faculty member in the Master of Organizational Leadership Program at St. Ambrose University, Ron taught courses that allowed individuals to strategize and accomplish needed organizational change. His approach to leadership centers around working with organizations to determine how they can best realize their aspirations.

He earned his undergraduate degree in Communication from Augustana College in Rock Island, IL, his master’s degree in Communication and Rhetoric from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, NC, and his doctorate in Communication and Rhetorical Studies from the University of Pittsburgh.
